Sunrise is a large, contemporary limited-edition sculpture inspired by the coastline, the rising sun and the organic textures found in nature. The sculpture is made by Kara Sanches and casting by LS Sculpture casting. Photos show the sculpture displayed in the beautiful gardens of Leonardlsee Lake and Gardens, Horsham, UK.

Handmade in the UK, the original sculpture was created in clay before being moulded and cast in cold cast bronze and resin. The surface texture is made using real pebbles I collected from the beach, creating a wonderfully tactile pattern that echoes the natural forms of a pebble beach shaped by the sea.

The sculpture is finished by hand with a rich verdigris patina, bringing together deep bronze, turquoise and blue-green tones. The highly textured outer surface contrasts with the smooth, sweeping inner form, suggesting the sun emerging above the horizon.

At 120 × 120 × 40 cm, Sunrise is designed as a substantial statement piece for a home, garden, courtyard, entrance or commercial space.

A Unique Handmade Artwork

Although produced as a limited edition of 50, every sculpture is individually finished by hand. Variations in the verdigris patina, bronze tones and surface character are part of the handmade process, making each piece subtly unique.

Inspired by the coastline, the sea, the horizon and the first light of sunrise, this is a modern sculpture designed to bring a sense of the natural landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

Wax and polish - once a year
After cleaning your sculpture with water and a small amount of detergent, polish your sculpture. Use beeswax polish (in a tin) and a dry soft cloth. With a cloth or a brush, work a thin layer of the wax onto the sculpture so that it is evenly coated, then wait for it to dry. You can consult the packaging on your wax of choice to know exactly how long this should take. Then, with a clean cloth, you should buff the wax, making sure to give your sculpture an extra polish in those areas where it may have been dulled the most. Even though your sculpture may not look dirty, it is recommended that you give your sculpture a clean and wax about once or twice a year. This helps preserve the original patination.

Displaying sculptures - pedestals/plinths

I recommend a metal bespoke plinth maker based in Gloucester. https://tomsplinths.wixsite.com/social
He makes bespoke rusted metal and powder coated paint finishes in any colour.

Also, some photos show my sculptures displayed on slate-affect planters that have been turned upside down and used as pedestals. They are relatively inexpensive and you can find a variety of stone finishes and sizes. They are also easy to move around. One customer placed a tile, matching in size and colour, on top of an upturned planter to display their sculpture, which looked great. https://www.primrose.co.uk/planters

I live in the EU - do I need to pay import duties?

No, the DDP (delivery duty paid) will be covered in the delivery fees. The sculptures are original artworks and so a special reduced rate is usually requested on delivery. The rates are slightly different in each country. We use Commodity code: 9703 90
