The sculpture is heavy and so special care is made during packing and delivery.
The base is sent separately in the box and needs attaching with bolt supplied.

As I live next to the sea I get a lot of my inspiration and ideas from the patterns and texture I see there. I really wanted to make this sculpture to show movement, flowing lines. As the name suggests, I was thinking about waves in the sea gently moving over each other. The texture is a repetitive layering of clay that builds up in areas. Much like waves in the sea the texture flows over the sculpture creating a gentle layered affect.

The base is a well made and finished black slate with a subtle lined pattern running over it.

I make the sculptures first in clay and then cold cast each addition in aluminium and resin. Each one is unique as they are finished by hand using several stages before the final cold cast aluminium finish is achieved. These sculptures are of the highest quality finish and great care and time is taken to achieve this.

I can provide a variety of finishes such as aluminium, iron or copper. If you would like the sculpture to be cast in an alternative finish then please don't hesitate with your request.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Do they weather with age?
A. The sculptures are completely frost-proof making them suitable for the garden. They can be cleaned if required by using a small "wash up" sponge. The rough side of the sponge will highlight the metal.

Q. What about after care?
A. Do not use strong detergents or chemical cleaners, as this will destroy the patination. It is advisable to polish them with pure bees wax or hard wax once a year. Simply spray or brush on with a decorators brush. Then wait for the wax to dry before gently buffing the surface.

Q. Securing the sculpture?
A. The sculptures are made with a threaded nut encapsulated in the base where a threaded rod can be screwed into the base. The sculpture can then be fixed into a pedestal, base or pushed into the ground to give it stability.

Q. Ordering sculptures?
A. Ordering an additional sculpture in aluminium or another finish such as bronze or rusted iron for example has a lead-time of approximately 6 weeks.

Please don't hesitate to email me for further information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

Q. Do they weather with age?
A. The sculptures are completely frost-proof making them suitable
for the garden. Due to the almost solid bronze outer layer, they do react with the weather and can, as solid bronze, develop verdigris. This can be cleaned off if required by using a small "wash up" sponge with a rough side to it. This will highlight the metal.

Q. What about aftercare?
A. Do not use strong detergents or chemical cleaners, as this will destroy the patination. It is advisable to polish them with pure bees wax once or twice a year. Brush on the wax from the tin, leave for 2 hours before gently buffing.

Securing the sculpture

The sculptures are made with a threaded rod screwed into the underside and cemented in. This is then bolted onto the slate base if provided with the sculpture.
The sculpture can be fixed using an extra long bolt to be attached to a pedestal, however this needs to be requested.
However if the slate base is placed on a flat non porous surface, I recommend securing it with Museum Wax, which will stop it from being knocked off. This is a non permanent solution and the Museum Wax does not dry.
You could also use epoxy resin glue to cement the base in place.

3cm slate bases

I supply 3cm thick slate bases either 30cm, 20cm or 17cm with my sculptures, which have a hole in the middle 1cm and countersunk on the underside by 1.5cm deep (for the nut attachment) by a diameter of 3cm.

Displaying sculptures - pedestals/plinths

Useful information about how to display your sculpture can be found here:
https://www.forging-ahead.co.uk/Plinths.htm

Some photos show my sculptures displayed on slate-affect planters that have been turned upside down and used as pedestals. They are relatively inexpensive and you can find a variety of stone finishes and sizes. They are also easy to move around. One customer placed a tile, matching in size and colour, on top of an upturned planter to display their sculpture, which looked great. https://www.primrose.co.uk/planters

Pedestals and plinths

EU Import Taxes
There may be additional customs and import taxes to pay by the customer on receipt of their goods. Each country handles this payment differently, some require payment given to the courier when delivering and other countries require payment to the postal depot before it is sent out to be delivered. This may cause unforeseen delays.
