'Rise' cold cast bronze sculpture for the garden or home
All of my sculptures are sculpted in clay and sometimes plaster, they are then moulded and cold cast (normally in bronze and resin) to a very high standard in my families sculpture casting workshop, LS Sculpture Casting.com. Have a look at the website to see more about the process of cold casting.
Mounted on 17cm x 17cm x3cm slate base
Limited edition of 50 - the sculpture is hand made and finished to a very high standard. I will provide with the sculpture a ' Certificate of Authenticity' signed and numbered by me. The edition number is applied to the finished sculpture.
Finish: cold cast bronze with resin (can request alternative) verdigris wax patination
The sculpture is heavy, special care is made during packing and delivery.
My sculptures are all inspired by the sea and coast where I live in Hove. I look at the textures of eroded pebbles, drift wood and shells. Also the movement of the water and tides.
Each sculpture edition is unique as they are finished by hand using several stages before the final cold cast bronze resin with wax patina finish is achieved. These sculptures are of the highest quality finish and great care and time is taken to achieve this.
Whilst a bronze finish has always been the first choice for sculptors, I can provide a variety of finishes such as aluminium, iron or copper. If you would like the sculpture to be cast in an alternative finish then please don't hesitate with your request. I would be happy to arrange this.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Do they weather with age?
A. The sculptures are completely frost-proof making them suitable for the garden. Due to the almost solid bronze outer layer, they do react with the weather and can, as solid bronze, develop verdigris. This can be cleaned off if required by using a small "wash up" sponge with a rough side to it. This will highlight the metal.
Q. What about after care?
A. Do not use strong detergents or chemical cleaners, as this will destroy the patination. It is advisable to polish them with pure bees wax once a year.
Q. Securing the sculpture?
A. The sculptures are made with a threaded nut encapsulated in the base where a threaded rod can be screwed into the base. The sculpture can then be fixed into a pedestal or pushed into the ground to give it stability.
Q. Ordering sculptures?
A. Ordering an additional sculpture in bronze or another finish such as aluminium or rusted iron for example has a lead-time of 6 weeks.

Q. What about aftercare?
A. Do not use strong detergents or chemical cleaners, as this will destroy the patination. It is advisable to polish them with pure bees wax once or twice a year. Brush on the wax from the tin, leave for 2 hours before gently buffing.
Securing the sculpture
The sculptures are made with a threaded rod screwed into the underside and cemented in. This is then bolted onto the slate base if provided with the sculpture.
If the slate base is placed on a flat non porous surface, I recommend securing it with Museum Wax, which will stop it from being knocked off. This is a non permanent solution and the Museum Wax does not dry.
You could also use epoxy resin glue to cement the base in place permanently.
3cm slate bases
I supply 3cm thick slate bases either 30cm, 20cm or 17cm with my sculptures, which have a hole in the middle 1cm and countersunk on the underside by 1.5cm deep (for the nut attachment) by a diameter of 3cm.

Some photos show my sculptures displayed on slate-affect planters that have been turned upside down and used as pedestals. They are relatively inexpensive and you can find a variety of stone finishes and sizes. They are also easy to move around. A beautiful piece of sculpture! It was exactly as described. For a pedestal, I took a piece of advice Kara had on her website and flipped over a slated pot. I haven't gotten around to getting a tile piece to go under the sculpture.

Kara”s sculpture is so beautiful! I am in the process of creating a sculpture garden and this gem will be my first entry. The patina gives the piece even more definition than it already has. It’s a lovely focal point for meditation. I plan to purchase more of Kara’s works.
